Story behind the song
Song was written during the devastation of Galveston Island by hurricane Ike. The tv newsman said, "You wouldn't want to be on Galveston Island tonight." I thought to myself, " What if you had loved ones trapped on the island and you were unable to get to them ? This brought on the lyrics below. Notice that the last word of some of the lines is the first word of the next line. Kind of a different structure.
Lyrics
Galveston Tonight Written by James Watson Copyright (c) Starbound Publishing Co. Last year I left you cryin' alone out on the Island, to take an opportunity, that San Antone afforded me, I worked my fingers to the bone, and all I got was all alone with nothin' but a memory of Galveston and how we used to be... If I could get to Galveston I'd put your favorite music on my bended knee I'd make my plea while we dined by candlelight I'd make it all back up to you could tell me what I had to do you think that we could work things through? I bet you we just might make it all alright, If I could get to Gaveston tonite
