Travellin' Way Too Heavy
Comment Share
Gary Comeau recorded and released "Another Broken Lullaby" in 1999. The recording was comprised of vocals and acoustic guitar, both by Gary, recorded live in a chapel. In January 2009, I took these songs and added drums, electric guitars and bass to them, plus a few little production tricks. Also a keyboard track on "Travellin' Way too Heavy." This was all done quickly and cheaply on a PC. Adding drums AFTER a song has already been recorded (without a click track!) is a recipe for disaster. Also, I'm not a drummer and I used drum pads! So the songs shuffle along haphazardly, I'm sure, and it's all kinda "washy" and lo-fi. All the same, from a creative standpoint,I'm happy with the parts I've added, and I think the songs still have a charm to them. I hope it comes through!

Story behind the song
Or as my version ought to be called, 'Reverbin' Way Too Heavily!' This is another fave of mine and the second one I did. Also, closer to the way I'd normally play. It is full of reverb-drenched guitar tracks, all recorded on the Gretsch. Was a fan of reverb back in the days when I played occasionally with Gary. I've reigned that tendency in over the years, but I couldn't get this one right without adding too much reverb! Was still gettin used to the drumming on this one. At this point, I should probably mention that a) these are actually all drum pads and b) I'm not much of a drummer. Neat bass line and neat little Pianet solo. Did a neat little trick to make the vocals sound doubled. Doubled the main guitar track an octave higher to sound like a 12 string. Extra reverby Gretsch track with extra helping of Bigsby.
