Pain in the Neck

I wrote the music on my micro BR mini four-track recorder using a guitar, built-in drum machine and a Yamaha Keyboard, James Higgins wrote the lyrics and sang, and Mike Fife added the bass.

It's not really a band, I've never even been in a band to be honest, I'm just a guy who likes to write music in his bedroom with a mini four track recorder and drum arrangements. I would love to start a band but it's tough to find the right people with the same vision, musical influences, attitude and flexibility (give and take). I might however be interested in meeting people who might like to collaborate.

Story behind the song
I wrote the guitar parts about five years ago and would often play them with a slightly different arrangement and tempo. I decided to redo it just for kicks on my new Boss Micro BR 4-track recorder. The built-in drum machine didn't have the drum line I wanted, so i used another, and the song transformed and manifested itself into what it is here. As I was working on it, I really liked how the song was progressing so became obsessed with finishing it. After a few days my back and shoulders began to hurt from being hunched over my 4-track recorder with my heavy hollow body guitar strapped around my neck for days on end. The pain was quite severe and persistent for about two weeks. This made me think of the pain and suffering Michelangelo must have gone through while painting the Sistine Chapel (a bad comparison, I know) and what an artist will do to complete a work of art. I posted the instrumental version accompanied with my story of suffering on the micro br website. James Higgins, who I've collaborated with before took this information and wrote lyrics to my piece of music. Mike Fife then added bass guitar. The final product is what you see here.
Lyrics
i dont know why it happens i only know it does i get so wrapped up in one thing i cant see nothing else i try to paint a picture or reproduce a sound im searching for the lost chord im not stopping till its found i got a pain in my neck i got a pain in my back i got a pain in my fingers i got a pain in my head i got a pain in my eyeballs im just a pain in the neck lets go at times the words elude me they dont trip of my tongue sometimes theyre buried so deep i dont think theyll ever come sometimes you can find them when you dont even try theyre sitting there in front of you before your very eyes its burning up inside me ive gotta let it out i think its something primal that you cant survive without call it self expression call it what you like its something that i have to do its keeping me alive its something that i have to do its keeping me alive i dont know why it happens i only know it does i get so wrapped up in one thing i cant see nothing else i try to paint a picture or reproduce a sound im searching for the lost chord im not stopping till its found i got a pain in my neck i got a pain in my back i got a pain in my fingers i got a pain in my head i got a pain in my eyeballs im just a pain in the neck lets go

This is a real classic. Love the guitar tones and changes... can hear the Bunnymen influence, and it's a stellar track. I really love the way you layer your guitars.
