Story behind the song
After seeing Steve Earle live, Elizabeth wrote these lyrics in tribute to Steve Earle's style as gift to her friend Linda Brady. Linda then asked me to provide the music for it as a suprise gift to Elizabeth.
Lyrics
My daddy lives on Whiskey Road He's lived there since the Civil War My brother did what he was told And died in someone else's war My granddad was a union man But there's no factory anymore Seems like we took all we could stand Time for another civil war And we'll know what we're fighting for This ain't our country anymore (harmonica break) I'm going back to Whiskey Road And stake my claim and make my stand My brother did what he was told and died for someone's foolish plan My granddad was a union man But there's no factory anymore Seems like we took all we could stand Time for another civil War For Whiskey Road and all my kin To set it right and start again And we'll know what we're fighting for This ain't our country anymore (second harmonica break) (out)
