Story behind the song
As I listen to this Medley, I am reminded of the points of emphasis I hoped to stress out with The Battle of Principalities. The premise is simple - tell a series of stories from multiple battlefronts - a spiritual war against the darkness of this age. Like all wars, there is a series of battles produced from various struggles...struggles which fight to occupy a particular piece of real estate. In this case...it is the wants, the needs, and the souls of billions of people seeking out the sense of their lives. I wanted to make sure Principalities held together various bits and pieces of genres - mainly classical and electrical sounds. There are points it became vast and epic, others more down to earth. Some areas were filled with mystery and ambiance, whereas in other cases it was more clear and concise. Movement 2 and 8, for example, were more industrial, unlike the sweep-you-off-your-feet pieces of Movement 7 and 10. Most, like Movement 4 and 6, were a total mixture of various tastes - representing the actual sightings of the battle. The classical side mainly represented the traditional perception, whereas the electronic side simulated the radical. It's a constant clash throughout. Of course, I don't expect everyone to be ecstatic about every single piece, as I understand some people are very particular to certain genres. But...I think if one takes the time to listen to this project - it might bring them to a more apparent awareness of what is actually going on. In all, it comes down to a message of warning. As an ambient voice in Movement 7 quoting Ephesians 6:10 - 18 puts it: "Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints." I hope you enjoy the project. Thank you. Dec 20 2007
