Story behind the song
this vocal is almost a complete live take/straight shot--in the studio we cut many vocal tracks on this song and once i got around to laying down number 6 or 7, i had finally smoothed out enough to where we were able to use the entire track--meaning no "punch-ins"!...the only thing we had to switch out was the very last line and we took just a slightly better version of that line from the track right before....it was a nice intimate evening in the studio.
Lyrics
COME A LITTLE CLOSER the sky was on fire this evening with washes of pink and gold it hung so low, i felt I could touch it it was like Almighty God reaching down CHORUS won’t you come a little closer? i think you’ll be surprised this is bigger than life bigger than our minds if you’ll just come and stay for a little while when you leave you’ll leave changed once you catch a glimpse you’ll want to come a little closer have you ever seen the sky on a clear night and wondered how far back it goes? have you ever seen the first rays of morning shooting through the blackest darkness? (CHORUS) the sky was on fire this evening written by anne davis sometimes i write songs (BMI)
