With more than 300 songs and counting and for more than 30 years, I have written in a variety of acoustic styles from novelty tunes to love songs to historical ballads to poetic surrealistic songs to retro-acoustic pop. From bizarre to traditional from funny to poignant, whatever style the song is in, the melodies are usually memorable and the lyrics unpredictable. This site will eventually contain rough often first take demos of my entire song catalogue. Many of the earliest songs when I first started writing will of course be shaky. So expect the songs to get better as time goes on. Feel free to come back and browse often as I will constantly be adding songs, one by one in chronological order, starting in 1974. If you are looking for some unusual songs to cover from a little known but unique artist, you have come to the right place. Just e-mail me. If you find a song here that intrigues you, but you don't like a line or two, or you think it needs a bridge, drop me an e-mail and maybe you can earn writer's credit if it gets that song to be recorded or performed.... otherwise just enjoy. You can become a Rob Lincoln fan at no cost to you. I promise that if you keep coming back there will be some real surprises along the way. While mostly acoustic, some original material will veer into folk rock and even 60's pop, but the garage rock and loudest material will also be found in full band arrangement at soundclick.com/abrasiveflowers Eventually some of these 300+ tunes may be rerecorded and make it on to CD, including a novelty CD that would be suitable for Dr. Demento or an historical ballad CD or a political song CD--but until then, this is the only site you can hear most of these songs. (A few of my songs CAN be found on songramp.com/RobLincoln and myspace.com/lessickandlincoln)

Story behind the song
Around this time in 1997, when Men From When had not yet started I approached Art Cohen with a couple of songs I tried to write in the Creedence Clearwater/John Fogarty style. They didn't sound anything like that band and weren't very good. I am now relearning them and improving upon them a bit. the still don't soumd like Fogarty but at least I wrked it up and added a devent bass line. I think I discovered my secret for plating decent bass is to give it up and do it on the keyboard. Weekly listeners rated this a 4.5 out of 5.0....Comments included: "Great jangling guitar" "The bass does sound better here" "Really cute" "Love the last chord of song" "Beautiful" "I like this one Rob, got a great 60's rock group sound and a great hook..but lyrics are hard to make them out in the verses." "Feet do the Talking is terrific- Great beat- I thought more Byrds or Rubber Soul-ish era Beatles but it spirited and great message in the lyrics (Albeit Michael Jackson had a similar message in Beat It but your lyrics are better). Thought I might use it in my school as an anti-violence message for jr. high school kids who are convinced that can 'take care' of any problem the way Rambo does."
Lyrics
Got the news yesterday Gonna take your pride away You feel like you have to attack You feel like you must stirke back But the best way to defend yourself The best way back to mental health Is not to get punced in the face Remove yoursel, it's no disgrace And let your feet do the talkin' Right away Let your feet do the talkin' Just walk today The big guy he just called you out Called your mama a big fat lout said your honey don't love you Said your house looks like a zoo But these aren't sticks and stones Those mean words won't break no bones You just need to hit the road Don't get squashed like a lost toad And let your feet do the talkin' Right away Let your feet do the talkin' Just walk today If you want an eye for eye Soon you'll be blind or worse, you'll die Rather swallow up your pride It takes to to fight but one for flight That man he's bigger than you think If you fight you'll have your blood to drink Better live to see another day And skeedadle right out of the fray And let your feet do the talkin' Right away Let your feet do the talkin' Just walk today Let your feet do the talkin' Right away Let your feet do the talkin' Just walk today
