Story behind the song
Sara Teasdale's poetry is ideal for setting to music: there are at least 2 versions of "I Am Not Yours" but I don't think anybody has done this story of a woman's lost love yet. I think the tune I wrote, in the folk/pop tradition suits it very well. The music was written on Tuxguitar and mostly realized with SythFont.This was my first experiment with Audacity on my PC and also an experiment with the mda vocoder (and Laurie Anderson, I'm not). I added material from pdsounds to try to create a soundscape. The resulting production seems to suggest a robotic rather than human tragedy, perhaps through inaction, allowing a human being to come to harm in the lido. Maybe I'm just a wee bit disturbed by hearing myself sing soprano.
