Welcome to Lapis Lazuli, an improvised free-for-all for all to enjoy.
Improvisation is a beautiful refined art, but one whose appreciation has decreased dramatically over the past 150 years or so. Luckily for you, the listener, jazz in particular has rekindled a fascination in spontaneity in music, which is something that we ardently strive to cultivate. When you mix this modern improvisational tradition rooted in jazz with Romantic and modern Classical forms, harmonies, and ideas, salt liberally and let sit at room temperature for 25 minutes, Lapis Lazuli is the result.
The key to our music is that the structural and organizational patterns, thematic events, etc. (in layman's terms, anything repetitious) that occur in our music are almost always spontaneous. They arise entirely from the two of us being on the same page at the same time, and even moderately composed songs and pieces that we play again and again always develop in an entirely new way every time as a result, depending on what page we both happen to land on that day. So basically...if you want the Lapis Lazuli experience, you need to come to our live shows yourself! Hope to see you there.
