Story behind the song
this song came to me on a bus in santa rosa, ca. i just came up with the guitar parts and then later the words, at some other time. i for some reason can remember guitar parts in my head easily. it's like numbers, and rhythms and tones are basically numerical or they can be compared to some beat from some song you know with some difference that you can remember. so it's easy, like planning your shopping list without paper, only there's less items. the lyrics turned out to be sort of subliminally sexual or something, like some subconcsious bondage instinct of modern american culture and its members. but what it's really about is realizing that society wants you to turn your back on the true emotional realities of life, and you must thwart the non-existent authorities, or "brain police," in order to serve the true authorities of relationships, the spirit world, and the natural principles upon which emotions operate whether other people or institutions want them to or not.
