When I was 16 my brother died at the Hillsborough Disaster, April 15th, 1989. This is a song based on those events at the Disaster.
Just me and Garage Band...
Story behind the song
In 1989 96 Liverpool fans died in a crush at the FA Cup Semi-final. The cause of this was lack of police control.
It's been 24 years, and justice is still to come.
Lyrics
The sun was shining, the birds singing,
Blue skies overhead, anticipation bringing
Smiles to everyones faces
as they wander down the road.
The excitement rises as the crowd arrives
Tickets in hands, but theres no surprise
The police are getting antsy
As the crowds swell at the gate
But theres something wrong outside,
They're trying desperately to hide
The facts and evidence
That they lost control that day
They said they couldnt contain them,
So they tried their best to blame them
For the error they made
That took your life that day
Once inside there was no going back,
The odds against you began to stack
The slow realization
That this might just be the end
Your chest grew tight, as the air grew thin,
Beside you a girl tapping her chin
Into your arm
In a desperate plea for life
Penned in tight, you knew this
Wasnt right, you didnt choose this
And as the tapping grew still,
You knew that girl just died
Loosing will to fight this,
Death grips yoo in its steely vices,
And as you take your last breath
you finally close your eyes
And it's 20 years on,
And I'm still writing this song
Fighting the will to stop wanting to go on
It's a very fine line
Between our two worlds
I'll see you in yours once I'm done seeing you in mine
And I miss you
Oh, oh oh oh oh
I still miss you
Oh oh oh oh oh
I still miss you
Oh oh oh oh oh
Yeah, I still miss you
Oh oh oh oh oh
I miss you
