Story behind the song
I met a lady a long time ago. She seemed to have all the worldly possessions one could ask for and more, and yet she wasn't happy or fulfilled. In fact she referred to her life as a 'velvet prison.' Sad for sure, but fertile ground for a song.

Outstanding recording. Wonderful lyrics and great vocals. Fingerpick'n is excellent as well. I like this song. It's in my mind even after it has finished. Excellent.

Really good finger picking...great recording...your lyrics paint the "Velvet" image so well...the melody is haunting...the vocals start in a formal fashion and warm the listener up as you move through the song. terrific. Did I leave anything out? :) Like it just as much as the jazzier version circa '77.

Steve, I love this song, and appreciate it more when reading the story that makes it so relevant and personal. It also brings a more meaningful message to the listener. This is one of your best! Carole Lee

Guitar play is outstanding! The lyrics tell a story that is both sad and very personal. This is one where you walk down the street and suddenly someone says "what?" and you realize you've been singing aloud "and you can blame it on your..." Good work! I want to hear more!

I really liked the lyrics. The vocals were excellent and made me feel what it was like to be in a velvet prison. Great acoustic guitar...I am learning to play at home and hope I can play like that one day!!!

Wow! What a great song! I love the lyrics -- they're awesome and very relevant today. The vocals are outstanding as well. The guitar is so melodic -- yet haunting. There are some who will never escape from their Velvet Prison. Great work!
