Story behind the song
Just thought I'd write a fun little ditty about missing someone you love, the regret of breaking up and the joy of being reunited.
Lyrics
"I Was a Fool" By: Olivia Francis and Kate Justus (c) 2008-BMI-ARR I was a fool to ever leave your side But baby I didn't realize at the time I was livin' a lie I lied to myself when I said I don't love you anymore Packed my bag, turned my back, said goodbye and walked out of your door Then half way down the steps felt a twinge in my heart And a voice in my head said, 'hey fool turn back around' But the stubborn side of me with painted smile refused to see I was probably makin' a scene like a circus clown Later on, alone that evenin' while dreamin' I was naked on a tightrope Spannin' a deep dark Canyon in the middle of a hail storm, Big balls of Lightnin' were flashin' n dashin' at me, And there was Vaseline spread like butter on the bottoms of my feet And I was slippin, 'n slidin', tryin' to balance with no arms, Wakin' up in a cold sweat weepin' n screamin' Like a Banshee at the top of my lungs, Holdin' on for dear life to a soppin' wet twisted sheet At that very moment I believed, I was a fool...maybe I was a fool! Half conscious, heard somebody knockin', shook my head Jumped out of bed, stubbed my toe stumblin' in the dark to the door Someone was shinin' a flashlight, it was rainin' cats'n dogs outside And I heard somebody yellin', are you alright, hey, are you alright? Then through squinted eyes, I spied a man's face and hands Pressed tight against my window pane like a peeping tom He was flaylin' and wailin' hey let me in, let me in, let me in I swung the door open, he flashed a grin He embraced me pleadin' baby, baby, never leave me again And at that very moment I really realized...I'd been a fool! I was a fool to ever you leave your side But baby I didn't realize at the time I was livin' a lie I lied to myself when I said I don't love you anymore Never should of packed my bag, turned my back, say goodbye and walked out of your door Because, I love you....yes I do I do love you
