Story behind the song
It was Gary's brainchild.
Lyrics
Verse 1 Got a quaintly queer and quirky new sensation wafting over me Got an emptiness in the pit of my stomach telling me things ain’t what they used to be Chorus A kick in the guts would have been kinder Than airing your dirty heart on the line A kick in the guts would have been nicer A kick in the guts would be fine A kick in the guts would have been fairer Or maybe just twisting my nuts in a vice A kick in the guts would have been better Than hearing that we’re at the end of the line Verse 2 It was a wordy wild and worldly message that you sent to him And you left in your outbox open for me to see Was that just a whim Bridge I know you think that it’s clever Running round and playing the field I know you don’t give a damn About the tears that I shed or the way that I feel I know you’re a long time flirt Let your eyes do your dirty work I know you’re on the alert For any excuse for dropping your skirt Repeat chorus Instrumental Breaks Verse 3 Got a deeply dark and dirty sense of anger welling up in me Got a pile of shredded photographs of you staring up at me Verse 4 Got my last cigarette to draw upon for some sympathy Got the last two mouthfuls of a bottle of scotch to try to numb the agony Chorus and adlib outro

I like this a lot, bit of Zappa'esque humour in there, nicely done all 'round. Cool guitarring and great vocals, everything sounds good :)! Great stuff, Mauri.
This one brought back a lot of the best sound of my child hood and the tunes I listened to as a young adult. The organ had a touch of argent, the guitars had a touch of hendrix, or maybe trower. The moog sound was so cool as well. I just like everything about this. It reminds me what I have always liked about rocking out. Well done my friend. Frank Henderson

What a fun listen here! Love the progressive rock feel. Nice dynamics and super playing by all involved. Excellent production and the solos are killer. Cool tones and riffage. Vox are belted out with good emotion. This must have put a smile on all faces involved! Great collab guys!!

"Kick in the guts" has gone straight to my Rockers Station Brian. Congratulations ... to you on the superb lyrics and fantastic vocals, to Gary on the idea and great music, and Doctor C on his keyboard talent. A cracking collaboration all round, Carol.

Who's that holding Paul Bunyan's shoe in the visual ; )) This is a "Kick in the a**" Rockin' tune - everybody involved has a great touch for Rock and gave it their all in this collab. Super vocals, killer guitar - and that B3 organ wraps up the performance - production is tops! This IS kickin' the guts fellas! Congrats on a heavy tune! Cheers, Bob
