English lyricist working with dozens of composers and artists
I am a lyricist working with many composers and artists around the world and most frequently with 2 guys, Juri Rosenfeld and Mark Ellis who, although their styles are entirely different, are both extremely talented as musicians and composers, as well as producers. Along with these two, with whom I have written more than 50 songs....I have been most fortunate to collaborate with so many others that the list is almost endless but two very talented ladies spring to mind: Dawn Diamond and Amy Caldwell, who have not only both composed for my words but have also both are possessed of beautiful voices and have sung many, many times on songs I have written. There is no ONE genre I write for, since a lyricist has to be able to write for ANY category and I do, but one thing I try to be always, is honest in my work because when there is integrity, there is a way to relate to the song and if occasionally I meander into the poetic, it is because I am and always have been, since the age of 13 years, a poet...but that doesn't mean everything I write is flowery or full of metaphors...as I say, I strive always to be real and of course, most importantly, to be as unique as possible.

Story behind the song
With regard to the topical issue of Tibet's relationship with China, Mark suggested that we write a song on this subject which is of current concern to many people in the world and while I knew little about it, I was eager to find out more so I researched the subject and, therefore, in the process learned so much more.

Melting Glaciers by Dawn Sinclair music by Mark Ellis Played Mah-Jongg in Lhasa as I drank my butter tea saw the Potala Palace though it hardly noticed me Heard the Dalai Lama still believes in words of peace I won't dare to argue but the killing doesn't cease China's troops step in to quell the unrest in our hearts they say that independence is where the killing starts chorus and I say we just want to be allowed to stand alone and free another glacier melts I see but there's one more in front of me Before, life wasn't perfect and this was no Shangri-La progress here was slower we'd already travelled far They didn't let us grow up, spread warmth from within our hearts they thought they knew us better and that's where the killing starts chorus and I say we just want to be allowed to stand alone and free another glacier melts I see but there's one more in front of me one more glacier in front of me

Great song, that perhaps could influence people to think about the complex political situation of Tibet. I really like the mixture of oriental and "western" elements in the music! / Peo

I have to say this one of the best songs I have heard in while everything is perfect, the lyrics are fantastic the music is fantastic , the electric sitar is wonderful, the recording is great . everything sounds very British indeed , the sounds really are amazing in this song , all the instruments combined, it has a Genisis, Moodyblues kind of feeling which is one of my favorite styles to listen to. I am really enjoying the bass playing also. The chorus melody is unusual and unexpected which is very very pleasing to the ear . the lead guitar towards the end is icing on the cake cheers !! oh yeah that is one of my favorite books of all time the one tony mentioned " Shangrila " my copy is from 1933

Hugglies babe, Mark and this song are a treat, Great production Mark, I think you seem to get better on every song I hear from you. Very smooth styling and intonation adds to the effect of Dawn's lyrics and songs with a message can sometimes be a bit "iffy" due to personal preferences. I think this song, purely on a musical level, transcends that and is a beautiful song. Extremely well done both of you.

Hi Dawn and Mark, Everytime I hear Mark like this I am brought back to 1970s wings and Sir Paul. I love hearing Marks music. Performance and production are at an extremely professional level. Interesting lyric and an area that joe lunchbucket is not real up on. In fact they say most American students cannot find Iraq on the globe I venture to guess most would not even know to look on the globe to find Tibet. I am not an expert on Tibet but must admit a lay persons lifelong interest in the area and history. I had done a report on China in 7th grade and it turned into a book about 4 inches thick I was totally engrossed in it and of course I covered Tibet during that process. The whole concept of Shangri LA as laid out in the novel Lost Horizon by English author James Hilton a great uncle to Paris Hilton, certainly brought more intrigue and spotlight to the mystical city in the Himalayas in what is commonly thought of as Tibet. In case you want the readers digest ver

This is a song that HAD to be done, and I'm so glad the you and Mark rose to the challenge. I'll say it again, "It's all so sad, in New York, London and Baghdad..........and Lhasa", in fact anywhere that innocents die. Congratulations on a poignant lyric. Congrats also to Mark on a well put together production, great guitar, fabulous bass.

I agree with Juri This song has everything!!! The words very poignant and Marks music is just awesome, so much happening in there and he compliments your words perfectly, to the letter!! Well done to you both on another fabulous listening experience, love it!!! I'm still having probs with our second song, but I will finish it, even if I have to change the tune :o) It works great till I record it and the verse is fine, but the chorus timing is just no happening LOL Leave it wi me a bit longer sweetness and I promise you something sweet. Juri has kindly offered to pump up oor volume on 'The Whole of You' as I know it is a bit quiet. I've to send him my files. I'll email him to see exactly what he wants, everything together, or seperate. Been busy the last couple of days, brought the caravan home today to freshen it up afore we take it to it's new home up near Crieff at the weekend!! Held my second open mic night last night, went really well, quite a few singer/musicians showed

Wowie,-that's very cool.I'd say it's very British style (in a positive sense,as you've already guessed) of melting Oriental and Western influences.I'd say, bearing in mind the traditions of it,it's very close to the "Kashmir (LZ) in this sense. And it's great,-personal,and quite original variation on the old theme brought to the light by Mark's talent.I'm really very much impressed.And,Dah@link you got me reach for my glasses instead of headphones....LOL!:))))...Here's what I need them for..:))) Mahjongg,- Solitaire online is the famous chinese puzzle game Lhasa, sometimes spelled Lasa, is the capital of the Tibet Autonomous Region of the People' So,as I was already vaguely guessin'...the Kublai-Khan was just a foreword.....OK...I'm just teasin' you. All in all,-this piece is an entity concerning everything,-lyrics,melody/harmony,sound selection, presentation, memorable bass part etc. I love it,and pieces like this scores very high in my book. So,all I can say
