Something Wicked This Way Comes
An old idea, dismantled & put back together again. SWTWC was re-born out of an electronica piece called 'Air Sugar' and a track from my first band, called 'Device'.

Story behind the song
The song was inspired by a book written by Ray Bradbury in 1963 called by the same name. I read this book as a child in the mid seventies and it kinda stuck in my memory.
The song is about a carnival which creeps into town late one dark October night to the eerie whine of a calliope. In the terrifying days that follow, a schoolteacher suddenly becomes a little girl, a rosy-cheeked boy becomes a wizened Methuselah, a full grown man becomes a tiny dwarf.
The show is seen as an incarnation of hell; the sinister merry-go-round, the wax museum of living people, the strange mirror that stole souls…
Lyrics
Weather dark and stormy frown
The night the carnival came to town
Just a few days short of Halloween
Horizon lit with lightning flash
Outside the edge of town at last
The sky inhales and holds its breath
Sweet calliope music drifting by
Stirring those who hear its sigh
Now dress and run to greet the train
Rippling tents like coal black rain
House many things that have no name
The trap unfurls throughout the night
The next day came and went too soon
As Halloween brings a blood red moon
To light the circus and its prey
Dark & Cooger run the show
The freaks help out with what they know
Bout humans and their worldly ways
Forward old & backward young
The carousel has just begun
To trick all those who climbed aboard
The vain seek out the mirror maze
A place where they will spend their days
Lost deep within the mercury
The atmosphere forever changed
As everyone here became deranged
On their quest to find another lie
The circus feed upon their drove
Like a flypaper stuck with scent of clove
Their blood lust has begun to grow
The mind has gone their bodies know
Now missing people stalk the show
They’re just looking for the exit sign
So you take care and don’t be seen
If the weathers bad this Halloween
Something wicked might be on its way
