Story behind the song
true story of a girl , greenwich village native , but no one knew she was an artist till at her wake ,her family had her painings around the room . all I constantly heard people saying was ,"I didnt know she was an artist " .. she worked at a bank in the daytime and I knew her from the clubs at night . we became friends ,she had another secret besides being an artist ,and it was that secret that she died from but ,well ,she took that with her so Im not gonna tell it now ..listen to it,and if she wants you to know it ,she will tell you ..
Lyrics
drawing ..( a conclusion ), ----------------------------------- I didnt know she was an artist , till she had that brush with death , it left her pictures just like her , hanging by a thread . she once told me dont ask why you might not like the words . it makes the angels change their minds from a blessing to a curse . yeah she turned me on , but I was better off when she turned me down , I bet she never thought that I'd turn up around . I shouldve known she was an artist , when she'd paint and sign her nails . she'd say never give a reason why , cause why not never fails . half the way up the stairs , cashing bows for braids , leaving traces in her hair of day job masquerade . heaven knows why this old boy is standing while your not , but if you see that guy up there , tell him thanks alot . I didnt know she was an artist till she drew her last breath but arists just like angels go up right after death .
