A variety of musical influences can be seen in the music recorded by this band. Some of the materials on this site have only recently been made available on CD. The oldest members of this group have been in the music scene since the mid 60's. An interesting mix of rock, jazz, folk, county, bluegrass and surf make this a great treat for all listeners. The lyrics and music in the early years were mostly written by the prolific STEVENS & RICHARD song writing team and in the later years most of the music was written by Richard himself. Bob Stevens Fela and Richard were founding members of the 60's rock group KROP later known as the GRAPES OF WRATH along with keyboardist Gary Culotta, Joe Brongo on bass guitar and drummer John DeBernardo (Debo) all hailing from ROCHESTER, NY. Stevens and Richard formed a duo called Stevens & Richard (imagine that) after the demise of Grapes of Wrath.
Richard C. Richardson is the founding member and can be heard on guitars, bass, banjo, drums, keys, percussion and vocals. Kim Richardson is on keyboards and vocals.
Story behind the song
"SOON IT WILL BE CHRISTMAS TIME" is a new song written by Richard, it has a nice 'torch' type JAZZ flare to it....Lots of what I call nice Christmas Chords, the minor 7ths, m7-5ths, dim7th, major 7ths etc.......To me it kind of conjures up a dark, smokey bar feel... I actually wrote the lyrics thinking about the kids stuck in Hell on Earth IRAQ and Afganistan that won't be home for Christmas...It works well with lost loves etc. too...
The Song opens with a the verse:
I'm kinda' tired, it's warm by the fire,
I hear the sounds, of the Bells, and it moves me.
Soon it will be, Christmas time.
That verse, I guess, was inspired by my father who died about a year and a half ago... He spent quite a bit of money (THOUSANDS) to have the Bells at the Church in Watkins Glen (ST. MARY'S CATHOLIC CHURCH) fixed, and he wanted to hear the Bells before he died...On Christmas Eve, after working on the Bells for MONTHS, they finally got the BELLS OF ST. MARY'S to ring, YES, that's right, the BELLS OF ST. MARY'S rang again after more than 40 years being broken, and just a few months before he died... So when we hear the Bells, for better or worse, it brings back memories...
AND OF COURSE THE SONG IS AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE OR LEASE....(got to pay off those bells...LOL)
It's a bit rough (like everything else) right now, but we'll be working on it the next few days....It kind of reminds me of something you'd hear from Chet Baker or maybe even something that Michael Buble would sing (I actually had him in mind when I wrote it..)...
As of now, there is a Yamaha JG200 acoustic guitar playing the background chords (miked)... A Washburn J3 electric jazz type guitar playing the opening melody lines and a few scattered chords here and there, scales on the turn arounds and leads. Guitar was run into an old Epiphone Superba Amplier..A Roland JV50 Snyth playing Rhodes piano and Fantasia Bells sounds.. A 5 string electric bass run direct into the board...Roland digital drums...All Instruments and vocals by Richard...
PS...If you know anyone that might be interested in the tune, please let me know...It's usage is OK with me for performances, and it's a FREE DOWNLOAD, but if you want to record it PLEASE GET HOLD OF ME...
Thanks, Richard

I'm kinda' tired, it's warm by the fire,
I hear 'The Sound Of The Bells', and it moves me.
Soon it will be Christmas time.
Outside my window, I see the snow flakes,
I see the lights, on the trees and it moves me.
Soon it will be Christmas time.
I see your face, in my mind
Oh, you're so far away.
I see your smile, the toys in a pile,
Hoping you'll, be back home, for awhile.
I hear the music, outside my window,
Must be 'The Choir', in the streets, and it moves me.
Soon it will be Christmas time.
INSTRUMENTAL INTERLUDE
I see your face, in my mind
Oh, you're so far away.
I see your smile, the toys in a pile,
Hoping you'll be back home for awhile.
I'm kinda' tired, put out the fire,
Turned off the lights, on the tree, and it moves me.
Soon it will be Christmas time.
Soon it will be Christmas time.
Soon it will be, Christmas time.
