One of the BEST Rock songs ever from Phil Collins covered here on what marks the debut of my DTXpress III Special drum set...
Classic rock cover
Hello World!, I say WELCOME. I'm a 57 years old classic rock fan and musician. For the most part I only do covers of classic rock and folk songs but am known from slipping in an occasional ballad or instrumental here and there too.
Story behind the song
Dark as it starts, gripping lyrics and then the final release in what has become one of the trademark drum lines in rock music history. Many urban legends surround the lyrics of In The Air Tonight... anyone of us can accommodate the interpretation based on personal feelings or experiences - the proof of a good song. This is a timeless classic.
Lyrics
I can feel it coming in the air tonight, Oh Lord
I've been waiting for this moment, all my life, Oh Lord
Can you feel it coming in the air tonight, Oh Lord, Oh Lord
Well, it you told me you were drowning
I would not lend a hand
I've seen your face before my friend
But I don't know if you know who I am
Well, I was there and I saw what you did
I saw it with my own two eyes
So you can wipe off the grin, I know where you've been
It's all been a pack of lies
And I can feel it coming in the air tonight, Oh Lord
I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, Oh Lord
I can feel it in the air tonight, Oh Lord, Oh Lord
And I've been waiting for this moment all my life, Oh Lord, Oh Lord
Well I remember, I remember don't worry
How could I ever forget, it's the first time, the last time we ever met
But I know the reason why you keep your silence up, no you don't fool me
The hurt doesn't show; but the pain still grows
It's no stranger to you or me
And I can feel it coming in the air tonight, Oh Lord
I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, Oh Lord
I can feel it in the air tonight, Oh Lord, Oh Lord
And I've been waiting for this moment all my life, Oh Lord, Oh Lord
Except for the drums, it is all run through Yamaha's S-YXG50 soft synthesizer. On the XG Bank 0 patch list, it is #88 - Bass Lead. I should really revise this song with a real electric guitar... mea culpa.
