HARD ROCK BAND THAT BLENDS HEAVY BRITISH AND SOUTHERN ROCK styleS. TOUR DATES INCLUDE GIGS WITH AC/DC, DERRINGER, PAT TRAVERS BAND...AND WERE CONSIDERED AS
AVALANCHE is defined by Webster's as: "an unstoppable natural force"...and this all-original rock band certainly seems to fit that definition...overcoming the odds to produce some of the very best original hard rock anywhere! With an unorthodox strategy for success in 1978 (which included 18 months of intense rehearsals, their own record label, $75,000.00 worth of state-of-the-art stage gear, and a record on over a dozen New England radio stations for three months...all before ever playing a live gig) AVALANCHE's debut show was attended by over 3500 people..and the band was immediately playing to sold-out shows and standing room only crowds wherever they appeared. Within a month after their first gig, AVALANCHE was headlining in large club venues, and shortly after that, the band was opening tour dates and sharing concert stages on AC/DC's "Highway To Hell" tour, as well as with DERRINGER, and THE PAT TRAVERS BAND. They were also considered as a tour opener for TOTO's First U.S. Tour. A tight and well rehearsed rock-n-roll machine...this band did whatever was necessary to bring studio-quality hard rock to the live-concert stage...and they did it without the support of a major record label. Now recording again, with all the surviving members of the original lineup...here is the first new AVALANCHE music in over twenty years...as well as some of their old music too, (most of the recordings have never been available before). AVALANCHE continues to defy the odds with their staying power and persistence...and by remaining "unstoppable"...they are here NOW....for you to sample and enjoy! Story behind the song
THE ROAD LESS TRAVELED Copyright 2007....by CRYSTAL MAGIC MUSIC (ASCAP) Recording Produced and Mixed by: Michael Foster Recording Engineered by: Mark Easton Music Written and Arranged by Michael Foster and Mark Easton in June, 2007. Lyrics Written by Michael Foster in June, 2007. Recorded at ROUGH CUT STUDIO (Eastford, Conn.) in July, 2007. Mixed at GOLDEN SUN STUDIO (North Palm Beach, Florida) in September, 2007. Mastered by: David Pendragon at THE STUDIO...Canberra, Australia. Michael Foster: Electric and Acoustic Guitars (left) First Outro guitar solo,Vocals. Mark Easton: Electric and Acoustic Guitars (right), Final Outro guitar solo, Background Vocals. Barry Easton: Drums. Michael Corsini: Bass. This song was written to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of Avalanche's formation in September 1977. It is really "classic" Avalanche music...but with a very fresh sound...reflecting our roots as a band...and our growth as a band as well. As in many Avalanche recordings...this is a song that was co-written by guitarists Michael Foster and Mark Easton...and clearly reflects how well two people can think as one...musically. Each brought very essential musical elements to this track...and the result is a sum...greater than it's parts. The arrangement of Acoustic and Electric guitar parts...as well as the rhythm section...all played in true Avalanche style...and lyrics that are honest and meaningful...combine to make this a track that really exemplifies the musical identity that Avalanche has spent 30 years developing. It truly represents a little bit of all the many facets of the band...from soft Acoustic guitar work...to intense electric guitar chord and lead work...with bass that explores the melodic as well as the rhythmic...and drums that never let up. The vocals try to relate the trials and tribulations, as well as the joys of being a professional performance and recording entity..and the harmonies add a texture that we feel added the finishing touches to this track. The Road Less Traveled" went from just a chord pattern I sort of stumbled onto during one of the first days we got together for these current recording sessions in June, 2007...to the recording you now hear...and the entire process from conception, to writing and arranging, to being rehearsed, recorded, and completely "finished"...required only a total of 30-35 studio hours....and at least half of that was rehearsal time. When we rehearse a song...the solos are played "live"...as if we are on stage. For the actual recording phase...Mark and I both play our rhythm parts (rather than the leads) in the room when the basic tracks are recorded. The solos, vocals, and acoustic guitars we add as overdubs in order to be able to mix them properly. I know from my own experience playing in many different professional groups that this kind of tightness and empathy between players never happens on new material...in such a short period of time. Something very special seems to happen whenever we get into the same room to play music together. That chord pattern I "found" ended up being the entire chorus and solo section. Mark Easton wrote the chords for the intro...and from those...we both wrote and arranged the verses. That took us about...two hours. I decided to add an acoustic guitar part that played all suspended chords over the intial electric rhythm guitars (that were playing minor chords). Mark Easton then decided to add a second acoustic guitar...capoed at the fifth fret...for a totally different voicing. And so the original idea just "grew." The song wasn't even an "idea" yet...when these sessions started. That's pretty much typical of the way things work in this band. Things just happen when we get together. Music seems to "come together" in an almost "magical" way. We are very proud of this track...and the fact that through some very tough times..."we're still rolling along....and we're still singing our song"
Lyrics
THE ROAD LESS TRAVELED Lyrics by: Michael Foster Copyright 2007 by Crystal Magic Music Publishing (ASCAP) VERSE #1 It's been thirty years....has it been that long? This Road's been hard and long... When Life shows up...and things seem wrong... We just keep moving on. The twists and turns along the way... Are the things that make us strong... Ain't nothing new...we've been here before... This path is clear...but worn. CHORUS We're on a road less traveled...and we keep rolling along We're on the road less traveled...and we keep singing our song And when the road unravels...we keep driving towards the dawn We're on the road less traveled... VERSE#2 In a different world...in a different time... The many shows we've played.... New friendships forged...old friends we mourn... The price that we have paid... This journey's not for faint of heart... Nor the easily dismayed... To shine in lights...up on that stage...the sacrifices made... SECOND CHORUS For the road less traveled.... It's too late to be afraid... We're on the road less traveled... Though the music's been betrayed... We're on the road less traveled... And we keep singing our song... We're on the road less traveled... Would you like to come along? We want to take you there. SOLOS END

Mike, this is a hard one to begin with. What shall I pick up. The wonderful acoustic intro, the words, the panning concept, the mix? Okay best thing to do and to let all readers know what this is about, here´s your quote: "This song was written to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of Avalanche's formation in September 1977. A band that´s been playing for 30 years. Incredible. Mine lasted 2,3 years. And this was a long time ago. Okay 30 years. A band that, in a world where every 25 minutes

Gees! the intro was so like a song i did a while back. Then your crusty guitar and voice led me away to a new experience. Great work lads and if you ever want to do the Dublin Ireland scene the GUINNESS is free but the jet fuel is yours. Great neat sounding band.

Avalanche; I know I've already commented in the past about how much I like this and other songs of Avalanche. But with the new rating system I wanted to get back on here and get my stars added in here. The Road Less Traveled is got to be probably my favorite of the songs you do. And I like everything Avalanche has posted on the site. Mike I don't know how you manage to fit in all the music related activities you do. You've contributed a lot to soundclick and I know you've been a big encouragement to me also. Now I see you have been busy with the Senior forum. You've got a love for the music for sure. I wish the entire band as always continued success with music and recordings and also good health. Thanks for the great music!
