Jazz-influenced and thematically inspired by the work of NIN and The Cure, this song explores darker emotions and how they are passed from generation-to-generation in Western society.

Anomalous is the latest project from experimental artist, Landry Butler. It was created in response to a post that went around Facebook in early 2009 imploring artists to “get excited and make things.” The 6-song/spoken word EP features frequent collaborators; the experimental jazz duo, 3 Pups Music and Adrian Rose (puppeteer and member of The Mattoid). It is influenced as much by the DIY ethic of Jandek as by the chance operations of John Cage and the nonlinear dreamscapes of David Lynch.

Story behind the song
This piece addresses the way western society is destroying itself by focusing only on short-term goals and satisfaction rather than looking at "the long now." In the USA we are disconnected from the rest of the world. We are an island of excess. We live in our own parallel universe divorced from the concerns of those not fortunate enough to live here. Advertisers cut us down and say we need their products to be whole. The larger part of many of our lives is spent working at jobs we don't like to buy things that we don't need to impress people we don't like. What is wrong with this picture? I don't have an answer to society's problems, but for myself, I am taking time to do the things I find important and fulfilling. At some point, I will die and between now and then, I want to do what I can to make my dreams real. Otherwise, WTF?
