Story behind the song
this Love song, was written for a buddy, as a birthday gift from his girl-friend. She came and asked me (3 days before his birthday) to take what I knew about them both, and their love ... and compose a song, and tape it, so she could have something to give him for his birthday. She was a dirt poor, cotton farmer's daughter. No money! But very much in love with my friend. So, I did this for her, as I felt a bit sorry for her and her situation. I composed the song in only 10 minutes. But I was not going to sing a love song to my buddy! LOL! I got a female singing partner, Debi Lynn, (who we did a combo show together on occasion, called, "The Lady and the Outlaw", while in TN.) to sing it for Roger. While taking only 10 minutes to compose it? It took us, 18 hours for me and Debi to get it right, on tape. Because I had to coach Debi, on her singing, and general performance, where to hold or carry a note and where to cut or chop a word, etc., all the while playing guitar and bass drum, myself. It's simply Debi Lynn on vocal. Me on one guitar, while playing of all things, a large cardboard box, (Really!) as the bass drum, (with lots of makeshift setup to make it sound like a bass) and a metronome for timing. Although, I found that I could tone and reverb the metronome, and make it sound like a rim shot on a snare drum, as well. This song was taped all at once, thru a radio shack, simple 4 channel mixer, (Debi owned), and run thru my Create Amp, directly inline into a home, stereo cassette deck. That's right! I think Debi and Doug bought this cassette deck at Kmart. I used a Shure Beta 58, mic for Deb's voice. My acoustic Epi, one large, cardboard box, with an old kick pedal, I had laying around. And lots of padding and foam to get the bass drum sound, with a cheap-ass mic inside the box, and run thru the mixer. And the metronome? I rigged it to sound like a snare rim-shot, thru the mixer, and tone controls with a touch of reverb. Roger wound up with the original tape for his birthday gift from his gal, Linsey, 2 days later. This uploaded copy, is from a second generation copy of the original tape. I was able to clean it up a bit thru my old Nero 3, program on my old beater, Dell 500 puter here. It turns out now, (according to Debi Lynn), as one of her most requested songs, when she performs, to this day. I re-recorded, just the music, and gave her a copy of it she could play it, as part of her regular show ... or by request. Just thought I should all let you here our compilation or rushed team work, for a fellow friend. Debi is a great singer herself! And a great friend! And her and Doug, (her husband), took me in, off the streets, when I was homeless, down in Nashville, in '96. I taught her to play bass and sing harmony, while I lived with them for over a year. Hope ya enjoy her voice and especially in this song. Debi Lynn, normally sings Blues and Jazz. That's why I had to coach her a bit, on this country sound ... and she did a great job, all things considered.
Lyrics
You may not know what you do to me, when I with you. And I'm not sure, I can explain, sufficiently ... But what I'm sure of ... is that this is love, I hold for you. Still, let me try and tell you, what you mean to me ... Chorus 1: Know that I'll always want you ... forever and a day. I'll stand beside you ... along all life's highways. You needn't ask? My heart is sure ... you're the one. And I'll be here for you, as long as life goes on ... Small musicical turnaround lead. Chorus 2: If you could hear my heart ... it would be sayin without a doubt. How much I want to be a part of you somehow? So where do I begin to help you understand and believe I'll always love you ... From the deepest part of me. Yes! I'll always love you, (spoken): (from the deepest) part of me .......
