Story behind the song
My thoughts on a life that has been affected by Alzheimers disease.
Lyrics
I grew up down by the river, no one there but me I spent my days by the railroad tracks , nothing much to see The trains rolled by and then were gone, And I would just wander home Hoping that someone would come and be a friend to me You moved in just down the road back in 1964 Ma called out and said to me there is someone at the door We played and swam and watched the trains Through the Midnite hours and the pouring rain I wish that we could do it all again before the night time comes. CHORUS Thanks for all the good times and the all the days to come We have seen some bad times, we’ve had a lot of fun Friends should last forever, Dreams they should come true I’ll never have a better friend than the friend I have in you Our teenage years they came and went, we were side by side We fought at times but we laughed it off, it was quite a ride Somehow we survived through Viet Nam Then we made our way back home In the blink of an eye, before you knew it, thirty years were gone. We’ve lived our lives together, brothers in many ways But that midnight fog is coming on, I have had my better days Sitting here, we reminisce, But it’s just not the same I know you are my best friend, but I don’t even know your name
