Story behind the song
This song was written for the theatre performance "Decameron", for the the episod "A bet" in which Bernardo believes the false accusations of his friend Chipollo, that his wife Jiovanna is unfaithful to him. He orders to kill her. Jiovanna survives and lives some years disguised as a man. Finally she finds Chipollo and pays him back. Bernardo is sorry, but Jiovanna leaves him despite his pleadings.
