(Vocal) This song is gospel, folk, blues, and many other genres. Watching the candlelight visual at Virginia Tech, it hit home. I dedicate it to all the victims' families and friends, it's a song of reflection, dispair, and hope.

Artist picture
Evan Paul is a very unique artist. His music is totally original, multi-genre, mostly acoustic, new age, easy listening, uplifting and spiritual.
I'm a Canadian songwriter musician and have recently released my first CD, "Spirits in the Sky". It's an instrumental, classical guitar album with sweeteners such as flute and strings. After decades of performing in various bands and as solo, I have finally settled on recording and writing, and only playing live ocasionally. Result, is a sweet, easy listening and spiritually uplifting work that defies any genre placement. It's pure acoustic and very melodic. Also, one will notice vocal songs and collaborations with various world artists. Presently, my latest CD "Eklektika" is active. It's one of the most original multi-genre instrumental album ever created. Unlike my previous, "Spirits in the Sky" collection, this one has percussion, a little more punch, but still retains that Evan Paul style of classical guitar playing. Enjoy!!!

Story behind the song
We all get depressed from time to time, but after what happened on the 16th of April 2007 at Virginia Tech, I felt the pain of the nation, you see, I too have a son in University, not there but it could happen anywhere, it sure hit home. I felt the pain and dispair, and even though this song needed refining, and in my opinion not complete yet, I felt compelled to release it in it's present state and dedicated to the victim's families and friends, may we all learn from it. I was watching the candlelight visual tonight, very touched by it all.
Lyrics
Candle of Light (Evan Paul Kozaris) Verse 1 Candle of Light, burning thoughts within' my mind, Reminding someone life had left behind, Dark lonely room, I am best there in the gloom, Searching for meaning I will never find. Verse 2 Candle of Light, painting pictures in my eyes, Revealing images of silent cries, Staring at me, four grey walls appear to see, Looking, at me, they cannot sympathise, Spoken mostly... Candle of Light, I need a little joy in my life, So come on everybody, we rehearsed this song long enough, Are you ready? I wanna feel the power. Chorus Little joy within my sadness, will you ever, find your way, Little joy within my sadness, you've been gone, for many a day. Verse 3 Candle of Light, now you flicker inside, This lonely room where shadows hide, Candle of Light, you have been so very kind, Reminding someone life had left behind, Mostly spoken, Yea, left behind, without joy in my life, So won't you help me, help me sing this song, Come on everybody, let's do it again, Is everybody ready? Are you ready? I wanna feel the power, raise me up, Chorus 2 Little joy within my sadness, will you ever, find your way, Little joy within my sadness, you've been gone, for many a day, Little joy within my sadness, will you ever, stop these tears, Little joy within my sadness, you've been gone for many years, (lead voice adlibs) Ad lib in whisper, etc.

Hard to believe that tragedy was so long ago. Time moves ever faster. This is quite a response Evan. Heartfelt lyrics delivered with emotion and the instrumentation is awesome. What a GREAT build! Your production is always so top shelf. Nice!

Nice song Evan with a nice story. Nice use of instrumentation and the guitar always brings your work full circle. Like the horns in this and the vocals and lyrics give this song its life. Another great work from you. Enjoyed. Peace and Blessings, John

Another WINNER!! Wonderfully arranged. Love the staccata parts in the background with strings which made this different and stand out. Thank you for allowing this song to be used in my best friend's funeral. This is the song I sung with you on. hehe ~ Maybe we will get a chance to sing that live one day in the near future. Evan you are touching so many hearts sweetie.
