Adjitka is a word play based equally on the Bolshevik idea of Agitka, used during the Russian civil war, and Western principles of propaganda used particularly in advertising. The two most prominent aspects of propaganda/advertising are simplification and repetition, we see this particularly in the news media, but tend to ignore its obvious presence in the advertising industry; slogans repeated over and over trying to induce us into purchasing useless products. Agitka is a form of propaganda film developed during the Russian revolution and used through out the civil war, basically trains would show up in remote villages with short films demonstrating the benefits of communism often using humour and populist imagery. Basically it served as an agitational device to insight the masses to curtail to Communist propaganda. We see the similarity in the two devices, often advertising is little more than propaganda for a capitalist way of life, and in view Agitka films, one can see many similarities a simple plot followed by a beneficial ending, say for instance a beer hound obtaining sex by purchasing the American lifestyle, or else the fat bourgeoisie discovering all there health problems are due to lack of hard work, is this for a spa or a revolution. So we intend to demonstrate in song the similarities in Bolshevik ideological propaganda with that which America currently uses, and in doing so, we mean not to merely point out obvious similarities, but to show the absurdity of American life, using the techniques of simplification and repetition of appropriate ideals, while at that same time juxtaposing conflicting ideologies both presented by the media. Hence Ad- j-tka. And furthering the mediated reality, with any luck we intend to insight crowd think, the basic principle that crowds work to the lowest common denominator, and are emotional, thus easily swayed. Often this is used for the negative, to create stupid principles and force them upon crowds, buy buy buy, being the most obvious. However in crowd insight it maintains a focus and mental insight within the group. Be a part of the crowd, but not one with it. As the other problem is too much individualism, thereby leading to an ignorance of the common good, be an individual in a crowd, not a crowd in an individual. So through the medium of music, we are attempting to create insights into personal thought, but doing this in a subversive way, to invoke certain ideas, and in no way trying to provide answers, as realistically we don’t have them, however through thought and effort, perhaps individuals will be inspired through our music to search for personal freedom, and perhaps see something new. This is our goal, perhaps we are too arrogant and caught in our own egos, but hey it’s not such an ignoble goal to fail at is it? We are Adjitka, the embodiment of an ideal.
