Story behind the song
Raga Bageshri, one of the most beautiful & expressive ragas in Indian music is my favourite melody for expressing love & romance. Moreover, it blends beautifully with the sound of the santoor ( a hundred stringed Indian instrument played with strikers or kalam), played here expertly by Dhananjay Daithankar. The exquisite note combinations combined with slow, unhurried & leisurely raga elaboration, builds up the mood to a high level of expression, conveying the pangs of separation, the bitter sweet feeling of deep love, the apprehension of separation and the joy mixed with pathos at meeting & then separating from the beloved. The visual imagery that accompanies the music often stimulates me to seek higher levels of musical expression with all the subtleties on my bamboo flute. I am like a painter to whom the brush is the flute, the vivid colours & hues are the musical notes & the vast canvas that I choose to paint is that which I see, sense & perceive through my mind's eye. Every attempt I make to create music takes me one step closer to the ultimate divinity of naad brahma.
