Story behind the song
This depicts many of the feelings and emotions I went through in the first few years, after I came to Christ. As a new Christian, I had many questions and dealt with many new emotions. Fortunately, I had a friend and pastor that helped me through some tough times. I have known others that didnt make it through the tough times. People are led to Christ and then abandoned without further direction. It is as though new Christians are left bleeding at the Altar. The one thing I learned is that the only thing you can rely on is that new relationship with Christ. That inner voice, living in your heart will speak to you and guide you, if you just pray and reflect before you act. You can talk to everybody in the world, but Jesus knows what is in your heart and will guide you, if you listen. Lyrics
You Can Talk to Everybody (in the World) © 1996 by Ernest DeWaters Jr. Music (ASCAP) Author: Ernest DeWaters, Jr. (ASCAP) (Chorus) You can talk to everybody in the world. You can listen to the preacher’s words unfurl. Oh, everybody’s gonna tell you where to start. But only Jesus knows what’s in your heart. (Verse 1) Remember when on my knees I prayed. You promised me that I could be saved. Oh, that is when I got a brand new start. Oh, that’s when I asked Jesus in my heart. (Verse 2) Today, I’m confused and skies are gray. And there’s no one here to help me on life’s way. Oh, there are those that could, if they would take the time. So, I guess Ill look up those old friends of mine. (Verse 3) Think I’ll stop and have a drink or two And think about the things I ought to do. Oh, I could call this old girlfriend of mine. And we could share a smile and a glass of wine. (Verse 4) And when it’s late and time to go home. If she’ll go with me, then I won’t be alone. But wait a minute! Now, think before you start! He won’t let you do that with Him in your heart. Jesus won’t let you do that with Him in your heart. (Chorus 2) You can talk to everybody in the world. And you can listen to the preacher’s words unfurl. Oh, everybody’s gonna tell you where to start. But only Jesus knows what’s in your heart. Yes, only Jesus knows what’s in your heart. You can talk to everybody in the world.
