This is a ballad that was marvelously interpreted by an award winning songstress Deja. Thank you Deja for making my vision tangible.
Lifted Voice is devoted to bringing urban sounds to Gospel music. The unique mixture of jazz, dance, and traditional musical influences are easily identifiable behind inspirational lyrics.
Story behind the song
This song was originally written as a 'filler' song that was played during church service. However, I was asked for material for Deja, and decided to make this a full blown work.
The story is that my mother lost a 14 year battle with cancer. I thought I was prepared. Nobody told me that I may watch TV and see a funeral and go right back there. Nobody told me that I may meet someone with the same name and go right back there. So not only as a message to myself, but also to others about "the little things that remind me..."
Lyrics
I didn't know, the things I struggled through, could come around again to see what I've learned. I didn't know, the pain that hurt me, could come back again, and try to take what I've earned.
save me, save me, save me, I have you to save my soul
And I know, that all these things can't hurt me. Lord as long as I have you to lean on. I know it's true, 'cause I've seen it with my own eyes, I have you to save my soul.
I didn't know, that little things would remind me, of loved ones youve called back home. I didnt know, that memories would play in my head, over again of laughter long gone.
save me, save me, save me, I have you to save my soul
But I know, that all these things don't matter, and I know that I have you to lean on. When Im down and out , when I just need to hold on Jesus, I have you to save my soul.
You've revealed yourself, in so many ways, in so many times. You've been there when I needed you. Lord, I need you right now. Please speak to me, and make my heart still.
save me, save me, save me, I have you to save my soul. I have you to save my soul. I have you to save my soul
God, all this pain don't matter no, no, no. 'cause I know I got you to lean on.
I know, I know, I know it's true, 'cause I've seen it with my eyes. I-I have you to save. I am glad that I-I-I-I have you. I have you. Thank you Lord. I have you to save my soul.
