Playing @ the Legendary Hard Edge nights in Exeter alongside Easygroove & Ratty and having MC Robbie D on His set. Durstan started mixing at school in about ’96, mainly playing hardcore but he did play a bit of D&B as well at the time. In ’99 Durstan started his own night Bassache in Exeter which went very well and drew in a small fanbase, however the club owner decided that it was the wrong sort of music for his club after the third event and so it was that the only Hardcore event in Exeter finished. He was then Offered a residency for a new D&B night (Step Out Of Time) starting in Exeter after the promoter saw Him play at a house party to a packed out room. SooT soon became the most popular Underground night in Exeter thanks to their up for it, fun attitude and Durstans consistency as a DJ who always tries to play something a little bit different. It wasn’t long before the night was big enough to start booking headliners and from there the night grew and grew but after 2 years the promoter became bored of the music and so the name was changed to Evolution and Durstan suddenly found himself to be co promoter of the event. However Durstan too was getting bored of D&B as was Longing to play his true love Hardcore to a crowd. Unfortunately Exeter had no Hardcore nights and very few House parties which would except Hardcore so it was with a heavy heart that Durstan had no choice but to stick with what he was doing and attempt to drop the odd hardcore track into D&B sets (to mixed reactions). It was around this time that he secured a residency for an Offshoot night of Exeters biggest Hard Dance night Hindsight called Hindsight Re:Loaded and it was here that he was able to express the more up for it music by playing Old Skool on a regular basis. In August of 2005 Durstan fealt the call of the East Coast and moved from Exeter to go to University in Brighton and so was given the chance to start again in an environment far more in tune to the style he longed to play. After a slow start luck gave him a wink and he secured himself a Regular Set at Brightons biggest Hardcore night Vibealive which is where he is still Playing and has had some of his proudest DJ’ing achievements of his career. He has finally fulfilled some of his dreams such as being on the same bill as Druid (one of his all time heroes) and The truly Legendary Hixxy. With offers slowly but surely coming in from other organisations things are certainly starting to look up for DJ Durstan.
