In May 2005, Calvin was invited to perform during the two-day Annual Sweet Auburn Festival in Atlanta, Ga. He has opened for Def Jam recording artist Montell Jordan in Washington, DC, performed at the Fleetwood Mac club in Baltimore, Maryland, and has opened for Verity gospel artist Virtue in Talladega, AL. In March 2006, he graced the stage as the opening act for CeCe Penniston in Atlanta,Ga. Giving an awe-inspiring performance, he was selected as a finalist out of 500 contestants in the V-103 Pepsi Smash Showcase hosted by Tosha Love. Calvin has diligently learned how to train his ear for pitch recognition, singing, and mastering intricate harmony arrangements. His musical influences include legends such as: Luther Vandross, Nat "King" Cole, Cole Porter, Donny Hathaway, Johnny Mathis, Aretha Franklin, Prince, Stevie Wonder, and Rachelle Ferrell, all of whom have had tremendous impact on his unique vocal styling, lyrical prowess, and eclectic approach to music.
