Throw 'Em Back

The first country demo I ever recorded with the help of my former guitar teacher, Dean Powell.
Welcome to my page! I hope you like it here. I’ve been writing songs on and off for the past 30 years. I tend to write country although I'm known to write songs that are more folk or rock. Sometimes when I sit down with a guitar I surprise myself with what comes out!

Story behind the song
I used to take guitar lessons from a guy named Dean Powell. Somewhere along the line my guitar lessons evolved into songwriting lessons, for which I'll always be grateful. When I wrote this one he said, "We've got to record this!" And we did. That's Dean on the bass. Hey Dean, wherever you are, I'm still writing songs! Thanks for being an inspiration!
Lyrics
Throw ‘Em Back I never really thought he was the cheatin’ kind But when he ran off with her it really blew my mind I tried to forget him and my friends told me “Start looking around, there’s other fish in the sea” So I waded in the water hoping for a good catch But the ones I caught – I had to throw back Well Joe would come on over, bring his laundry too He’d watch TV and eat all my food Michael was the quiet one, I thought he was great ‘Til I heard that he was wanted in eleven states And when Billy’s wife called to see where he was at I really hit the roof so I threw him back I’ve had nothing but bad luck again and again I’m tired of reelin’ in these poor excuses for men I’ll keep on tryin’ hope it’s worth the wait The problem’s the men – it’s not the bait I pulled in another one the other day So far he’s looking good, I think he might stay Still I’m worried that he’s gonna be like the rest I’ll just have to give it some time I guess And if it doesn’t work out I’ll have to start from scratch What else can I do? I’ll have to throw him back I’ve had nothing but bad luck again and again I’m tired of reelin’ in these poor excuses for men I’ll keep on tryin’ hope it’s worth the wait The problem’s the men – it’s not the bait So I waded in the water hopin’ for a good catch But the ones I caught – I had to throw back Yeah the ones I caught, I had to throw back
