Chris Jay Becker is an American singer-songwriter whose music has been compared to Lou Reed, Bob Dylan, Townes Van Zandt and Johnny Cash.
I'm Chris Jay Becker. I'm a singer-songwriter and guitar-thumper with the occasional foray into mandolin, blues harp, and slide guitar. My songs mix rock, country, folk, the blues, and gospel. You could call it Alternative Country, Acoustic Rock, or Roots Rock. Think John Mellencamp, Steve Earle, or acoustic Springsteen. I hope you like these songs. They're lo-fi acoustic demos, but I think they're pretty good songs.lke

Story behind the song
The first verse is about several women I've known. The second verse is about a former coworker whose son really did rape and kill the neighbor. It's a song about coping.
Lyrics
SANCTUARY GIRL There's a girl named Mona Lisa who loves to travel and her picture perfect life loves to unravel she's got posters of Jamaica on the ceiling she's got a drunken boyfriend without soul or feeling I think it's safe to say she needs to get away she needs sanctuary got to find a place of rest she needs sanctuary and I say yeah. There's a woman that I know she's a working mother 'til her teenage baby raped and killed the neighbor still she works real hard each day to pay the rent she lives on romance books and cigarettes I think it's safe to say she needs to get away she needs sanctuary got to find a place of rest she needs sanctuary and I say yeah. Maydays from the trenches coming in quite clear postcards sent from heaven "Wishing you were here."
