Story behind the song
As part of the wlking tours project (a song a month from sep. 2004 to august 2005) April follows the centerpiece of the album March by talking about our propensity to start wars in april and a nod to t.s. eliots "the waste land" in a attempt to express my feelings on the rebirth of spring and the possibilities presented theough spring cleanings of all kinds.
Lyrics
Well the winter was extra long this year
Darker and colder leaving me lonelier and older
But I think I sense a change in the air
No matter how bad it got
I knew before long that spring would come on strong
And I could put all this darkness away.
April's not the cruelest month
I don't care what they say
And yeah I heard all about the war
The bloodshed and pain
But i'll just let the rain wash it all away
And welcome the new life
As I walk and quietly breathe in Spring.
And the winter's been brilliant thus far
so bright and warm
and not to many storm's crashing overhead
Just showers to wash away the grey
And oh how I love the rain!
It makes these days pulling flowers from their graves
And turning the trees so green.
Man I can't waste the weather
Gotta get my life together
Stop screwing around
Plant my feet on the ground
Head out of the clouds
Make myself proud for once...
