Story behind the song
This is a song I wrote back in 1994. Although I have played it live many times since then, I never got around to recording it until recently. Recorded on computer, 06-30-06. Re-recorded, 07-02-06. 2090 post The song depicts the plight of a homeowner who has built a house next to the local airport. Although the land was cheap due to its location, the poor fellow forgets this, and complains about the noise of the jets taking off and landing each day.
Lyrics
Way down south in McKinleyville, I built my house on the top of a hill so I could see as far as I could see. Woke up one morning, sun was bright, looked out my window and I had a fright, it was a 707 starin' down at me! ----chorus: Airport, Airport I live next to McKinleyville airport If I had a dollar for every jet That landed here well I'll just bet I'd be McKinleyville's next millionaire ---- Airport, Airport, the land was cheap because of the airport If you cant see the forest for the trees and you can't smell the ocean for the breeze and you think that Global Warming's not a lark Just come on by my house on the hill help me out, help me if you will we'll turn that landing strip into a park (Chorus) (Chorus) (instrumental break) (Chorus) (Chorus) I'd be McKinleyville's next millionaire I'd be McKinleyville's next millionaire
