Story behind the song
Some years back, the Pennsylvania Legislature with due disregard for separation of church and state, passed a resolution disapproving of the scheduling of baseball and hockey games by three Pennsylvania franchise on Good Friday.
Lyrics
Imprtant men in Harrisburg got nothing better to do. Good Friday makes them holy, so I write down this song for you Phillies and Flyers and Pirates, too, They all got a big game to play But the good men in Harrisburg Don't like it on Good Friday, and so they say How can they play on Good Friday and Cheapen the name of the lord? How can they play on Good Friday, It should be against the law Kissing babies and shaking hands A resolution they wrote Isn't this an election year? Don't unholy people vote? Important men in Harrisburg Don't want your children to stray No hypocrites in Harrisburg Do they get enough pay? And so I say What do they do on Good Friday To cheapen the name of the lord? Do they get paid on Good Friday? It should be against the law!
