A fun ditty I wrote for a friend of mine.
Welcome to my page! I hope you like it here.
I’ve been writing songs on and off for the past 30 years. I tend to write country although I'm known to write songs that are more folk or rock. Sometimes when I sit down with a guitar I surprise myself with what comes out!
Story behind the song
I wrote this song as a birthday present for my friend, Jody, who is a self-taught banjo player. She posted it on another website, and apparently banjo players everywhere really like it. So I thought I'd share it here, too. This is a rough demo, and the only thing missing is a banjo!
Lyrics
(Verse 1)
My husband’s gettin’ lonely because I’m not around
But when he’s looking for me, he knows where I’ll be found
I won’t be in the kitchen or watchin’ TV
I’ll be sittin’ down right here with my banjo on my knee
(Verse 2)
He’s been complaining ‘cause I let the housework go
The dust is so thick, that now it looks like snow
The living room’s a mess and the laundry’s piling up
And he’s making his own dinner ‘cause I’m havin’ too much fun
(Chorus)
‘Cause when I play the banjo, I don’t give a damn
I’d rather sit here frailing than to hold a frying pan
It’s the banjo or him, he says I’ve got to choose…
Gee I’ll really miss him, but I’m learning 3 new tunes
(Verse 3)
I probably should beg to take him back – well, wouldn’t you?
But I just found the tablature for that good ol’ Mountain Dew
So I guess I’ll keep on playin’ ‘cause I’ve got time to kill
One day he might return, but I don’t think he ever will
(Chorus)
‘Cause when I play the banjo, I don’t give a damn
I’d rather sit here frailing than to hold a frying pan
It’s the banjo or him, he says I’ve got to choose…
Gee I’ll really miss him, but I’m learning 3 new tunes
Gee I’ll really miss him, but I’m learning 3 new tunes
