Artist picture
Country music singer and songwriter Pat James
Country singer and songwriter Pat James is humble about his talent and proud of his heritage. Born in the heart of the American West, he grew up in Phoenix, Arizona with an appreciation for the land, its people and the country western music that is an integral part of the cowboy culture. Refreshingly different from the montage of "pop" singers dominating the country music scene today, Pat James remains true to the origins of the genre. His rich vocal style and skillful guitar playing has thrilled audiences in Phoenix and beyond.

Story behind the song
It's a song I wrote for Bud and Theresa Pearl Benson. Bud is one of the best all around cowboys on the planet. He taught me more about cowboying and horses than anyone. They are both great horse people, and I admire them both for that. More so, I admire their relationship. They are perfect together.
Lyrics
He's as happy as any man could be He's lived his life with no doubt he'd always be free And loneliness has been a small, small price to pay For that freedom that just a cowboy's life can bring. You see he's special. Men with his skills are hardly found. Nothing fake about him. No he's a cowboy all around. And looking back he sees the ranch and rodeos And he cracks a teary smile for reasons God and he alone would know. As good as it's been, it surely could have been better If he'd not ridden through these memories alone But his lifestyle just ain't suited to any ol' girl In his sea of rocks and mountains, he's looking for a pearl. After half a century, he's still not slowing down When he's not working, he rodeos from town to town And there's a lady on the circuit he always knew he'd like to know But until now, their situations would not allow. They never knew, but their union had been planned It seemed a cruel , long wait to take each other's hand But don't question any wisdom from up above They've had fifty years to live, and now eternity to love. And as good as it is, every day it's getting better Never again will he ride through life alone He's now wise enough to see this ain't any ol' girl In his sea of rocks and mountains, he's found a perfect "Pearl" He thanks the Lord for sending Theresa Pearl.
