Artist picture
A unique mix of barroom bluesrock and soft American rock.
The cultural soil that made the blues great has all been plowed down to sterile ground and eroded away down the long Mississippi. So the challenge for a band like Cherri and the Violators is to reinvent the blues and bring something fresh to the table. Happily, even triumphantly, the band has done just that on an album that manages to be both experimental in its reach while saying something new. The Benzie/Manistee County-based band labels their music "contemporary blues," and you have to hand it to them: they have succeeded in slapping the paddles on the old zombie blues and reviving it as their own personal creation with songwriting that is exceptionally strong.

Lyrics
Hey auntie, why don't you visit me today? Hey auntie, why don't you visit me today? Well I looked it up on my calendar and this time you're really running late I woke up this morning, feeling ornery and mean Went to pull my zipper up and busted out my jeans Hey auntie ... I've been living on fingernails, sugar salt and caffiene Putting all my quarters in the candy bar machine Hey auntie... I needed my mama, called her on the telephone Told her I was suffering and she said you can't come home Hey auntie At the store or at the park, everywhere I see Toddlers, strollers, baby toys, persecuting me Hey auntie Last week I told my boyfriend that you were running late He left to buy some cigarrettes and he ain't been home to date Hey auntie
