SQUAD UP!!!!!!!!
Progression is said to be one of the main keys of success. Growth is another. In a time when Hip-Hop and it’s culture seem to be at an all-low, there seems to be promise after-all. From Rags to Riches Records presents BLIZIE RAP’S FUTURE. “From Rags to Riches Records was fashioned out of a necessity for reality,” states managing partner Trice Blam. “We want to be everywhere, doing everything, representing everybody. From Rags to Riches Records offers fans a soundtrack for life. We wanted our first artist to be a reflection of life’s reality”
He is BLIZIE, a 18 year-old MC that calls the East Heights Houses of Manhattan New York his native soil. “I was born and bred in the hallways and crosswalks of 90 projects. That’s my home”. Although Blizie grew up around music, he was not ushered onto the scene with a silver spoon in his mouth. He had a natural knack for rap, but he had to pay dues just like everyone else. He perfected his craft by watching and learning as his brother hyped the crowds at area shows and those infamous “South Queens Park Jams”. At age 16, Blizie was reliesed from Clintin Max after doing 1 year and 8 months for the infamous shoot out on Manhattan's own West Side Highway. decided to make Hip-Hop his career. Lyrically, Blizie's hardcore arsenal re-ignites a spark that Hip-Hop has been missing for quite some time. “Hip-Hop needed Blizz. He’s a true MC. He brought back the fire that Hip-Hop so desperately needed,” states DMC (of RUN-DMC) about his protege.
In the summer of 2005, From Rags to Riches Records released an 18 song blend CD entitled “BLIZIE City Of God.” The CD sold like an illegal drug in the streets. “After 2 weeks, we sold over 5000 CDs just from word of mouth,” says Erick Blam. “That’s how the buzz started”. Track #2,“Squad Up” featuring Koch Recording artist Royce Da 5'9" (produced by Shatek-DMX’s X Gon Give It 2 Ya), quickly became a fan favorite. The song is an energetic, anthemic, dose of reality that was adopted as East Heights Manhattan’ theme song. It encourages the listener to stand up and be counted. On any given day, you can find everyone from children to teens to grandmothers to thugs sporting customized “Squad Up” t-shirts. Another hot record is the “Welcome to East Side” freestyle. With this catchy, melodic offering, Blizie opens you up to his world. “I rhyme about real life experiences, if it ain’t from the heart..it ain’t right.” The buzz from these 2 records resulted in Blizie becoming a staple on every important blend tape in the land, including DJ Finesse, DJ Kool Kid, DJ Absolute, On Point, Sickamore, Big Mike and Love Dinero.
The release of the blend tape signified a new era in Independent Hip-Hop music. It not only created a buzz on the streets of Manhattan and beyond, it also sent a soul-shaking earthquake throughout the Entertainment Industry. Everyone from music executives to recording artists to pro-ballers wanted to know who Blizie was. Soon offers where pouring in left and right. Blizie has shared a stage with the likes of Run-DMC, Capone & Noreaga, State Property, Ali Vegas and fellow Manhattan native Jim Jones. He has also been featured on Monday Night Football’s NFL “Rock The Mic” halftime show. Showcased with DMC and Marcellus Wiley of the San Diego Chargers, Blizie's face has traveled the airwaves to reach an overwhelming 10 million + Households. How’s that for an artist that is yet to have a nationally distributed release?
“I go to sleep writing rhymes, I wake up writing rhymes and sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night to write rhymes. Music is my life, for real,” states the energetic mc. BLIZIE and From Rags To Riches Records are equipped with creativity, street credibility and a sheer knack for making music. Good music. “Were gonna show the world that we have what it takes to go From Rags to Riches.”
