Story behind the song
About "(Shaman) Catching Dreams": An old lone Native American shaman dances round a fire high up on a rock ledge at sunset looking over the beauty of a vast desert plain. He has seen many changes over his 90 or so years of earthly life. He wonders why humans have lost contact with that most sacred, and as he dances he chants to the spirit world hoping an answer will come forth. He performs a Sacred Hoop Dance to find prophesy within dreaming, he sees great visions covering vast periods of time from when men were as one with the gifts of the land, then he sees a gathering of spiritual tribes that promise (regardless of change) to protect and hold dear the values of old, which is a love most powerful, and would survive beyond earthly changes. Then, the land was one, but would soon break into many, and from which many fruits would grow. But things would change as man saw himself, and because of this, separated him from a unity most true by casting distinctions upon things. Man would act as gods deciding what was right, and what was wrong. Using just these two distinctions, man would rise mighty over the face of the earth, as no other creature has this power. The lone shaman sees corruption as few earthly tribes attain discipline, seeing what appears to be simple, as a natural right. The Shaman chants more as visions abound. He sees great pyramids, and cites with buildings towering high, rivers of blood being shed for different distinctions of right & wrong, good & bad, this works, this doesnt those strongest consume the weak. Then he sees man taking to the air, as if angels, and then weapons of mass destruction. Then he sees what man considers the ultimate power, a technology gained through that simple distinction of good & bad; the very key to the building blocks of life in the physical realm. The Shaman asks why this has happened. Great visions enter the mind of the old man, but rather seeing the expected end of mankinds dominance and self crowned kingship over mother earth, he sees a new path. Many start to see in a new way and find one another without effort; a spiritual bond seems common, original values of greater things than self start to flourish, a spiritual gathering of kindred souls sees love in its many forms as being a true way! How can this be why desolate the soul in such a way only to return it to its true place? Then the old man sees a gathering of spiritual tribes as from old, one reaches out and takes hold of the old mans hand, and says; brother, have you forgotten as your fleshly body grows old, that we would never let the truth die. Fleshly life, as you well know, is all but a lesson along the journeys path. Truth is unchanging, but knowing this isnt. Come with us now my friend, and tell us what you have learnt this time as you have come full circle and have attained something very great indeed. The chanting stops, a wrinkled old man lays close to a diminishing fire with breath no more, the sun sets. Vision by: Chris Bishop
