I'm just a 56 year old cement mixer driver who gets laid off every winter for 3 months.I enjoy writing songs and recording them myself at home on my 8 track Boss BR864 recorder. It's just another one of my many hobbies.I just do it for kicks.Just laid back musical enjoyment. I have lots of originals and collabs on my page.My originals are are true stories about me,or people I know,or how I feel about things.Collabs are all efforts of me and my Soundclick friends.Doing collabs is my favorite thing here on Soundclick.Hope ya enjoy some of the tunes.

No Contest Laurel Varner 2004 alot of people write those songs, about singers that are dead but the people that, ther singin about, cant hear a word they said so im writin this song about a friend of mine, who's still alive and well he lives in southern iowa his name is rick zaputil (aka rick charles) he likes country music and blues, and a little bit of rock and roll we've done alot of jammin, the past thirty years or so every time we get togather, it always amazes me all the songs he knows, and his voice of gold, and his perfect harmony (chorus)1 i keep picturin him with a big old bus, with his name wrote on the side say'in somethin like, RICK CHARLES, AND HIS BAND THE COUNTRY PRIDE travlin all over the country, playin in all of them big towns standin on that stage in his cowboy hat, big old spotlights shinin down make'in big money and livin up high, doin what he does best i sure wish i could sing like him, but there there just aint no contest (lead) i recall the memorial weekend, Mystic 2002 there was rick and me,his boy jessie, some other friends and family too everything he did was right that night, he just couldn't do nothin wrong the strings were hot on his old les paul, when he played that one old rock and roll song he told me about, a guy he met, while he was on summer vacation this guy was a southern singer, by the name of Odell Jackson an indian guy with a awsome voice, he said to me with a grin i'll be dammed if 2 days later, old rick was singin just like him (chorus)2 there aint nothin id rather do, than play backup lead for you while your pickin and singin, them good old southern blues i think were both on a musical high, when were jammin, and havin a good time just wanted you to know, you are, a good old pickin buddy of mine i wish you were makin big money, livin up high, doin what you love the best i still wish i, could sing like you,but there just aint no contest i used to live across the road, from his long old driveway i could sit out on my porch, and listen, to him play if i closed my eyes, i could visualize, i was down in tennessee listen to a family, of backwoods mountain hillbillys i hope he keeps singin what he's singin ,for a long long while cause the kind of music that he does, never will go out of style this is the first song i ever wrote, and i've tried to do my best i still wish i could sing like you,but there just aint no contest (chorus2) no there just aint no contest..........................................................
