Story behind the song
I love the way politicians, our present fearless leader included, (mis)use language. When W circumvents the law by choosing not to obtain token judicial approval for domestic wiretaps, he claims the law has been violated by whomever leaked the story (even though the press sat on it for years). Back in the days of Reagan's presidency, the same sidestepping was going on.
Lyrics
Recovery Blues Hey, Mr. Landlord, can’t pay no rent Ain’t got no job, my money’s spent I know that I can’t live here for free But ain’t you glad about the recovery The president say work can be found What trickles up must trickle down A little deficit’s what you need To weather the recovery You pay for weapons by the ton You’ll buy star wars, you bought B-1 Hey Mr. Landlord, I just can’t see Why you’re aimin’ to get rid of me My foodstamps by ketchup My kids pray in school With me as your tenant You sure is cool Hey, Mr. Landlord, can’t you see I’m part of the recovery
