Story behind the song
Originally performed around 1990 by Veto and the Hitmen, a sort of an homage to Frank Zappa, answering the question, "Hey, can you guys play something familiar that we can dance to?" This updated version features percussion, drums via Hydrogen and real time shaker on tom-bourine, acoustic rhythm from Gurian JR, electric rhythym and lead from TP Noble Strat, and fretless Fender p-bass. Also features a brand new vocal track to answer the verses and chorus.
Lyrics
IMPROBABLE GROOVE (with a nod to Peter Stampfel's "Impossible Groove," inspiring the title) Out on the town for some romance, want to lose my shoes and start to dance But what they play never been heard before, guess the band don’t know the score It’s not rock and it don’t roll, it’s not pop and it’s not soul Why can’t they play in 4/4 time? Why don’t they make the lyrics rhyme? Chorus Nothing that they play sounds like something I could shake my body to Nothing that they say sounds like good old rock’n’roll is supposed to Nothing that they say sounds like something I could shake my body to Nothing that they play sounds like good old rock’n’roll is supposed to It gets so weird but it’s not punk It’s got a beat but it’s not funk; Reggae’s fine and ska’s hip too, but once they start they don’t follow through Chorus Bridge: When I’m searching for a sweetie the music’s got to be just right But as I make move, they cop another groove And all that she can think to do is say goodnight It’s not rock and it don’t roll, it’s not pop and it’s not soul Why can’t they play in 4/4 time? Why don’t they make the lyrics rhyme? Nothing that they play sounds like something I could shake my body to Nothing that they say sounds like good old rock’n’roll is supposed to
