Story behind the song
This is the conversion story of a family friend. As she faced her own mortality with the onslaught of AIDS, she came home to Jesus. Her devotion to the rosary and the changes that everyone saw in her as a result of her devotion sparked my own devotion to this special prayer.
Lyrics
The Story In Her Eyes I saw her picture sitting there on the shelf And I felt compelled to gaze into her eyes They had a story to be told that’s hard to hear Of a life that now has learned to say goodbye Of a willful heart that chose the darkness A life that cost so much But through this loss she gained it all For now that heart’s been touched FIRST CHORUS: Her past is catching up to her But she is not alone She’s resting in your arms, dear Lord And she is coming home To be your own She had a strength that couldn’t die despite the pain It’s a strength that’s born from clinging unto you And courage poured forth from that willful heart of old And she stood for you and everything you do Her eyes became a window that could Show the world your light I see that story in her eyes A darkness now made bright Our hearts are saddened that she’s leaving Can we be consoled? Believe in Christ, the risen body And the eternal soul SECOND CHORUS: She’s resting in your arms, dear Lord And she is not alone For you have set her free, dear Lord And she is coming home To be your own
