The Funky Deva...a songspinner of acoustic/soulful spirit-driven music for the mind, body and soul!
I first began to write songs as a small child. I was very drawn to music of all kinds, but especially to music that had "soul". Now this could mean Aretha Franklin or Judy Garland, both possess incredible soul! Later in my life I was influenced by so many great songwriters/performers...Carole King, James Taylor, Tracey Chapman, Phoebe Snow. I think I am a distillation of so many things and genres of music. I did not try to copy anyone...for instance I believe still, that "soul" music is not so much a genre, as it is what you put into the song of your own soul. I put a lot of soul into everything I sing!

Story behind the song
"There is a sacredness in tears. They are not the mark of weakness, but of power. They speak more eloquently than ten thousand tongues. They are messengers of overwhelming grief...and unspeakable love." ~Washington Irving~ *To all those new kindreds of mine who are in mourning over the loss of their angel "Michelle"...my heart so goes out to you. Love ya big! *sher* This newest song, "Nothing Stays The Same" was written quite awhile ago. It was inspired by the death of my kindred and twin soul Norman Seiffert. This was such a difficult time in my life...the loss of Norm was such a blow, especially because he took his own life in such a violent way. He was such a special person, beautiful beyond belief, so talented and gifted in many ways. I tried to save him, but in the end...could not. He was determined to leave this world. He would often say that he was too sensitive for this world, and I sure could relate, with the pain in my own soul nearly ready to suffocate the life from me. We were truly kindred spirits. He loved me in the most amazing way...a child-like innocent love that was one of the most amazing experiences I have ever felt. He made me laugh...told me I was beautiful, but not in the fashion model way. Nope, he said...not the usual kind of pretty, I was beautiful from the inside out. I glowed...I was like a firefly! I would have loved him for just that forever, but there was so much more! Norm was like a brilliant comet streaking across my sky, and I will never forget him and the things he taught me. It is all about "the love" my friend. So live it, give it, experience it in its fullest expression, for it is all we really have...all we take with us in the end. Love is what truly remains...it is forever and always...the beginning and the end. I hope this little song helps you in some way and if it does, please...pass it on! And as the song says..."Open up those pearly gates and let a little "lovelight" shine down on us babe!"...for we are sorely in need! Blessings and love to all! Peace*Love*Joy ~Live juicy!~ *sher* ...and a great big bear hug guuuraaahhhh! ;)
