Story behind the song
This is a song about what my Mother and Dad went through when he was diagnosed with cancer. She promised she wouldn't put him in a nursing home so she took care of him at home until he died.
Lyrics
His Last Sunrise Lyrics: Rebecca Dale Peaden (BMI) Composition: Sabrina Doughty & Rob Pepin (BMI) Vocals: Sabrina Doughty Instruments: Rob Pepin V1 The verdict was in - he didn't have long She knew it would take all she could give She made him a promise he'd die at home They kissed one another - the doctor moved on Chorus: He lay dieing - she was trying To keep the promise that she'd made So each morning when he awoke She brought him coffee and a smoke Gently climbed into bed Held him close as they watched Thru golden leaves of the old oak trees What could be his last sunrise V2 His suffering was taking its toll On him as well as her gentle soul He cried out loud if she left the room A once towering man scared to face his tomb Chorus: He lay dieing - she was trying To keep the promise that she'd made So each morning when he awoke She brought him coffee and a smoke Gently climbed into bed Held him close as they watched Thru golden leaves of the old oak trees What could be - his last sunrise Bridge: He craved ice cream but there wasn't a dime Social Security gave them a hard time They never knew where their next meal would be Hard times ahead was all they could see V3 The last few days 'bout lost their minds He saw his mother who'd gone on before He sang with the angels in three quarter time Her faith in god shaken to the core Chorus: He lay dieing - she was trying To keep the promise that she'd made So that morning when he awoke She brought his coffee and a smoke Gently climbed into bed Realized he was no longer there Thru the golden leaves of the old oak trees He'd been set free to watch his last sunrise
