Story behind the song
"I'm Gonna Survive" - a mid-tempo folk song with great harmonies... all across North America, traditional ways of life are changing. For various economic and political reasons, mills and factories are being closed down - a death knell to many small towns. Can we chose our response to events that effect us?
Lyrics
The sawmill’s closed and empty now, my old home town is just a shell; there’s nothing left in the old town square- the folks are gone, and the streets are bare. My daddy’s family worked that mill, my momma ran the drugstore till; they built this house, and loved it so, how sad they’d be to see me go. I’m Gonna Survive this lonesome parting - though I leave my home behind; this town is gone, and past revivin’ - let the old ways die; I’m Gonna Survive. Close this door, one final time – I’ll make this change, and be resigned; beyond these hills I know I’ll see the many roads that wait for me. CH [Bridge] Whatever comes I know I’ll cope, cause every sunrise gives me hope; I don’t know much, but I hope and pray that I have earned a brand-new day....
