Story behind the song
Oppression and the fight to overcome slavery
Lyrics
You took I and from Africa. Brought us down here to america. Using and abusing my brother. Making him a buffalo soldier. A wanna be free to rule my destiny. Just want to be free to rule my destiny. I and I was living in paradise. Before they took us to the land of ice. Feeding us on nothing but cheap white rice. It's just about time for them to realize. Even when there's no sympathy. You'll never take away my dignity. I'm trying to hold on to my sanity. Never to be tempted by your vanity. You keeping I in captivity. Causing all kinds of dis-unity. There's just no co-operation. For us it's only frustration. For four hundred years of slavery Lord. With whip on my back in the morning. Whip on my back at night. Tell me Lord, sometimes I feel to...

Extremely powerful song. Cuts clear to the bone. Again... outstanding lyrics and vocals. Should be #1 from my view. This song is a true gift!

Would love to hear this song redone so its full power is realized. I can hear the vocalist's power in other songs and regret his voice isn't shown off to its full potential here. But dayam, this is a GREAT SONG, man!
