Beautiful In His Eyes (radio version)
Story behind the song
Suzanne and I came up with an idea to write a song about the concept of beauty. I thought about what is "beauty"? Is it only visual? What if someone had lost their vision? Would they still perceive beauty? And would they still be beautiful to someone else if their face was permanently scarred? This song seeks to answer those questions.
Lyrics
Beautiful In His Eyes
Today he came back from the war
They helped him off the plane
Both his eyes were bandaged up
He tapped a red-tipped cane
He lost his sight that summer night
From an explosion in the sand
Last thing that he saw
Was a photo in his hand
Chorus:
She's still beautiful in his eyes
She'll always be twenty three
That picture stays in his mind
Even though he can't see
He knows her tender smile
And thanks God he came home alive
To someone so beautiful....
Still beautiful in his eyes
How he'd missed her touch and kiss
Couldn't wait for her embrace
He wondered if she'd feel the same
With the scars upon his face
But she's still beautiful in his eyes
She'll always be twenty three
That picture stays in his mind
Even though he can't see
He knows her tender smile
And thanks God he came home alive
To someone so beautiful....
Still beautiful in his eyes
Bridge:
And as the crowd began to cheer
She was all he could hear
When he heard the words "I love you",
All his doubts disappeared
She's still beautiful in his eyes
She'll always be twenty three
That picture stays in his mind
Even though he can't see
He knows her tender smile
And thanks God he came home alive
To someone so beautiful....
Still beautiful in his eyes
In his eyes
